Ashbury Cottage
Natural Healing for You and Your Pet

Therapeutic Massage

Massage therapy is a scientifically-proven bodywork used to improve and maintain physical and emotional well-being. Pet massage therapy is the application of massage techniques to dogs, cats and other companion animals. Unlike petting, it is deliberate and focused. Each touch is specific in pressure, direction and intention. More specifically, it is the working of superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue using various techniques to enhance function, aid in the healing process, boost the immune system, and promote positive changes in health and well-being.

Ashbury Cottage offers two different types of pet massage: therapeutic and maintenance massage, and canine sports massage.

Therapeutic and Maintenance Massage

Therapeutic and maintenance massage can be of benefit to pets of any age, whether a young pup struggling with growing pains and inner awareness, adult cats or dogs whose owners want to provide them with on-going body assessment and preventative maintenance, or the senior pet with age-related issues like arthritis or decreased activity. It has also proven effective with guinea pigs, rabbits and small livestock, such as sheep, goats and pigs.

Reiki Therapy

Reiki is a hands-on therapy and an ancient energy-based modality that helps bring balance to the body with the aim of promoting and supporting self-healing. The word “Reiki” literally means “Spiritual Energy.” It refers to the energy that makes up all things in the universe – the energetic substance that quantum physicists talk about and study.

Reiki is safe and completely non-invasive, and is especially suited to animals because the therapy does not require the practitioner to know what is wrong in order for it to work. The energy goes where it is needed most, and the animal can control how much – or how little – energy they receive. That said, each animal's reactions to the treatment during and after a session can provide much insight. Cats are especially attracted to Reiki energy and will often "help themselves" to a treatment if their person is receiving one, and most other animals, including horses, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs, amphibians, birds, and even fish, also enjoy the many physical, emotional and spiritual healing benefits Reiki.

Reiki Benefits Include:
  • Deepened Self-Awareness

  • Enhanced Health and Well-Being

  • Improved Sleep

  • Increased Energy

  • Profound Relaxation

  • Relief from Aches and Pains

  • Strengthened Immune System

  • Stress Release
